Overview

Saint Xavier University, located on the southwest side of Chicago, Illinois, is a private, four-year institution that was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1846. It is recognized as the first Mercy college in the United States and one of the oldest Catholic institutions in the Midwest. Saint Xavier maintains a diverse academic profile with a strong emphasis on nursing, education, and business programs. While the university has a moderately selective admissions process, it remains committed to providing accessible education. The campus features a mix of traditional, gothic architecture and modern facilities, with options for on-campus housing to accommodate its student population. The university is situated in a suburban environment with convenient access to the urban resources and opportunities of Chicago. Saint Xavier does not particularly emphasize athletics in its institutional identity, allowing a focus on its academic and community initiatives.

In the most recent statistical year 7,833 prospective students applied, and 6,590 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 657 enrolled in the school.  2,922 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 601 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $34,640 plus fees of $1,130.
