Overview

University of California-Irvine (UCI) is a public research university situated in Irvine, California, and is part of the prestigious University of California system. Founded in 1965, UCI sits near the coast of Southern California, approximately 50 miles south of Los Angeles, offering a suburban environment with Mediterranean climate. The campus is known for its Aldrich Park, a central park with a botanical garden, and contemporary architecture such as the striking Langson Library. UCI offers student housing across several residential communities. Academically, the university is categorized as having "very high research activity" and offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs, notably in biological sciences, computer science, and psychology. The institution maintains a selective admissions process. In the most recent statistical year 119,191 prospective students applied, and 25,212 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 5,664 enrolled in the school.  34,733 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 1,204 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $11,564 plus fees of $2,375.
