Overview

California Maritime Academy, also known as Cal Maritime or CSU Maritime Academy, is a specialized campus within the California State University system situated in Vallejo, near the San Francisco Bay Area. Established in 1929, Cal Maritime offers a distinct blend of specialized educational and training programs focusing on marine engineering, transportation, international business, and global studies, with a strong emphasis on practical experience. The campus's unique maritime facilities, including a training ship, provide hands-on learning environments that complement classroom instruction. With a moderately selective admissions process, the academy enrolls students primarily in STEM-focused majors such as Marine Transportation and Mechanical Engineering. Cal Maritime students are required to live on campus, which fosters an immersive educational experience. In the most recent statistical year 756 prospective students applied, and 722 were granted admission.  Of those admitted 145 enrolled in the school.  779 students are enrolled on a full time basis, and 70 attend part time. In-state tuition for 2022/2023, excluding room and board, is $5,742 plus fees of $1,374.
